The performance brings together The O’Jays, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Three Degrees and Billy Paul, backed by the label’s house band MFSB (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother).
This 12" 2LP is the 2021 Record Store Day Exclusive, released through Philadelphia International Records / Sony Music and presented in a gatefold sleeve. The 14-track collection was released on vinyl for the first time as part of RSD 2021.
Introduced by Don Cornelius of Soul Train, the recording captures the artists performing some of the defining songs of the Philadelphia soul movement, including “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” “The Love I Lost,” “I Miss You,” “T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia),” “Me and Mrs. Jones,” “Back Stabbers” and “Love Train.”
With its combination of lush orchestration, soulful vocals and MFSB’s renowned rhythm section, Golden Gate Groove documents the Philadelphia International sound at an important moment in its development.
