Description: The Black Keys’ Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough is a blues-rock EP originally released on 2 May 2006. The release serves as a tribute to Mississippi bluesman Junior Kimbrough, with Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney reworking seven of his songs into the raw, stripped-back style that became a defining part of The Black Keys’ early sound.
This 12" 1LP is the 2016 Ten Bands One Cause limited edition, pressed on pink vinyl and released through Fat Possum Records. The seven-track collection includes “Keep Your Hands Off Her,” “Have Mercy On Me,” “Work Me,” “Meet Me In The City,” “Nobody But You,” “My Mind Is Ramblin’,” and “Junior’s Widow.”
Recorded in the duo’s own Akron studio, Chulahoma captures The Black Keys’ deep appreciation for the blues while putting their own distorted guitar, powerful drums and soulful vocals firmly at the forefront. The spacious production allows each performance to breathe while maintaining the gritty character of Kimbrough’s original material.
